More than 7 million Somali people are experiencing severe food insecurity. Hunger has displaced over 800 000 people in the African country and continues to force families to flee their homes in search of food and water.

The reality facing the people of Somalia is devastating and yet, hope is present among the people.

Improving access to clean water

Girls and boys living in fragile places take on responsibilities beyond their young age. For children in Somalia IDP camps, walking long distances to retrieve water from a well is a daily routine. In an effort to improve access to safe water, World Vision has been providing emergency water to Ladan and Kaharey IDPs in Dollow, Somalia.

Improving access to clean water is one way World Vision is supporting girls, boys, women and men in Somalia's IDP camps.

In places where there is a lack of access to basic water and sanitation facilities this support is crucial. World Vision is building latrines and plans to connect the IDPs to its water well source. This will reduce the challenges of getting water from the few available sources and removing the burden of carrying water long distances for women and children.
